Raspberry varieties "Hercules"

Grade description

The name of the variety speaks for itself. The main advantage of raspberries of this variety is impressive size of berries (from 9 to 15 g). The fruits of the culture have a high density, saturated red color and the shape of a truncated cone. The taste is sweet, pleasant, with a slight acidity.

The variety "Hercules" is a repair, therefore, already in the first year it is ready to please the gardener with a good harvest. Another advantage of the variety is its low susceptibility to pests and diseases.

The main external characteristics of the variety:

  • average bush height - up to 2 m;
  • strong erect trunk;
  • saturated color green leaves;
  • greenish tint of shoots of the current year, brown - of two-year-old shoots;
  • sharp spikes on the stem.

Hercules berries ripen in late summer, and fruiting lasts until frost. Subject to agricultural practices, the bush yields 3 times, the last - in the fall. The main disadvantages of the variety are the weak formation of shoots and the extended fruiting period, as a result of which the last crop often does not have time to ripen.

Features of planting and care

The yield and properties of berries largely depend on the location of the bush. Raspberry loves the light and is afraid of drafts, therefore, most often it is planted along fences on the southern side of the site. Culture likes light soil, with good drainage; the most successful option will be loamy or sandy loamy soil with a fertile top layer.

Raspberries are planted in the spring, before planting, having previously prepared the soil (the selected area is dug up, fertilizer is applied, weeds are harvested). Shrub propagated by lignified layering with an already developed root system. Dig a hole up to half a meter in diameter and a depth of about 45 cm under the seedling. After planting the raspberries, it is recommended to pour the soil and sprinkle it with peat or sawdust (mulch). In arid areas, it is recommended to make shallow trenches around the trunk. So rainwater will stay longer in the root zone.

Plant care includes the following activities:

  • The soil is periodically loosened and cleaned of weeds, mulched.
  • In spring, raspberries are fed with chemical fertilizers, and in summer it will be useful to shed bushes with decoctions of nettles and other herbs, you can use a solution of bird droppings of low concentration.
  • So that the branches do not break, for raspberries they build props, the design of which can be varied.
  • Before winter, the root zone of the bush is covered with a thicker layer of mulch, and the shoots are bent to the ground.
  • In the second year of life, raspberries must be cut. In spring, the tops (about 12 cm), as well as frozen and dried stems, are cut off from young shoots. In autumn, a rarefaction of the bush is carried out, cut under the root of the layering, which has finished bearing.

Raspberry is a perennial shrub, but growing it in one place for a long time worsens the quality of berries, the bush degenerates. In view of this, every eight to ten years, raspberries should be moved to a new place.

General description of the variety

Raspberry "Daughter of Hercules" is a medium-sized bush with a tendency to branch. The standard weight of the berries is 10 g, the form is obtuse. Some berries can reach a mass of 20 g. Since fruit drupes are very tightly interconnected, raspberries are highly transportable.

To taste the berries are juicy, sweet, there is a small sourness. The purpose of the fruit is universal - they are used for processing and consumed fresh. Since the density of the berries is good, they can be frozen, this will not lose their commercial qualities. After defrosting, raspberries look like fresh and fully possesses excellent taste, as evidenced by numerous reviews.

Growing Features

Planting the variety "Daughter of Hercules" is similar to planting the variety "Hercules". For this purpose, you can choose any land, possibly even located in the shade, since the culture is not whimsical and grows well even in such conditions. Often the "daughter of Hercules" is planted near the fence - bushes grow over time next to it and begin to curl.

The best time of year for planting a variety is early autumn. The hole for planting raspberries is made with a depth of about 30-40 cm. The width of the beds should be about 1 meter. The distance between the planted raspberry bushes should also be within 1 meter, and the bushes are planted strictly one after another. The length of the beds depends on the number of bushes. It is advisable to protect the ridges after planting raspberries with the help of boards or slate.

It is not necessary to dig up beds where raspberries grow. This process can harm plants - digging can damage the roots. Bushes require periodic watering. In late autumn, raspberry shoots that have already been thawed are carefully cut out, and the young ones try to bend to the ground, after they have been pinning them with wooden or metal staples. In order for raspberries to be able to successfully winter, cut shoots are placed on top of the bushes, and thin branches of trees should also be put there. After that, the resulting structure can be covered with canvas or tarpaulin. Thanks to this, raspberries will not freeze in the winter and will be able to bring a lot of fruit in the next season.
